Digital Carnets Go Live Across Europe from 1st June 2026
From 1st June 2026, digital ATA carnets will be the only carnet format used at ports and airports across the EU, Switzerland, and Norway.
This marks a major step towards the full global transition to digital carnets by 2027.
The digital trial will continue for other participating countries. Please contact us for details of the specific ports and countries involved. The digital carnet will be used alongside a paper carnet, as the paper version remains the only legally recognised document. In the event of any issues with the digital carnet, the paper carnet will be the only document relied upon for official purposes.
The digital carnet is free of charge and is designed to streamline border crossings and improve efficiency. As not all ports and airports are part of the trial yet, the paper carnet process will still apply outside of participating locations.
We have been invited by the Chamber to take part in this trial, giving our clients a valuable opportunity to gain early experience with the digital system ahead of its full implementation.
